Alkaline Peptone Water is a selective enrichment medium used for the isolation of Vibrio species from food, water, and clinical samples. The medium has an alkaline pH (~8.4–8.6), which favors the growth of Vibrio while inhibiting many other bacteria.

It supports the rapid multiplication of organisms such as Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, making it highly effective as a pre-enrichment step before plating on selective media.
